ACNE

When hormones act:

Acne is caused by inflammation of the sebaceous follicles, small glands at the base of the hair. Normally, these follicles secrete sebum, an oily substance that protects the skin. As a teenager hormones awaken the boy, as the girl, will produce male hormones (androgens) in large quantities. These hormones affect the secretion of sebum, increasing it, giving the skin a greasy, shiny. Sometimes the follicle is blocked, the sebum builds up in the canal of the follicle to form a blackhead.
Within the gland, sebum blocked may be infected with bacteria normally present on our skin (Propionibacterium acnes), which triggers an inflammatory response: the red button.

Acne predominates on the face, neck and upper back. It fades and disappears, usually in late adolescence. Sometimes, acne persists among young adults.

Treatment:

Several classes of products are available. In cream or lotion, hey act differently antiseptics (benzoyl peroxide) and topical antibiotics (erythromycin) fight against infection. Derivatives of vitamin A (retinoids) regulate sebum production and prevent pores from clogging.

All these products, even if they are applied topically, can have significant side effects.
They are prescription and must be taken under medical supervision.
